Team LottoNL-Jumbo riders were again among the protagonists at the Tour of Britain, on Friday, September 8th. Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen claimed the third place in the final sprint of the stage 6 – 186,9 km from Newmarket to Aldeburgh – with his Oltre XR4, Bianchi’s ultimate aero road race machine. Lars Boom, the previous day’s winner, concluded safely in the bunch (16th) to retain the overall lead, as the stage victory went to Australian Caleb Ewan, for the third time in this year’s edition. Second place for Fernando Gaviria.
Team LottoNL-Jumbo riders managed to control the race, pushing at the front most of the day and catching the seven-man breakaway in the last 3 kilometers. The bunch sprint saw Groenewegen step on the podium for the second time at the 2017 Tour of Britain, after the second place in Blyth on stage 2. Nothing has changed in the GC: with two stages to go, Boom is still the race leader with 8 seconds over teammate Victor Campenaerts and 9 over Vasil Kiryienka.
VUELTA A ESPANA: DE TIER 5th
In the same day, Floris De Tier finished fifth with his Bianchi Oltre XR4 on Vuelta a Espana stage 19 (Caso. Parque Natural de Redes-Gijon, 149,7 km), after a whole day in the breakaway. Belgian Thomas De Gendt won the stage, while Steven Kruijswijk ended-up 34th, in the GC contenders’ group. The Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s Dutchman currently sits in tenth with a gap of 10:26 from overall leader Chris Froome.
