Chiara Teocchi claimed her first career Cyclocross World Cup's Top-10 placement, riding her Zolder disc to ninth in the round 8 held in Fiuggi (Italy) on Sunday, January 15th. Team Bianchi Countervail's 20-year-old rider covered the 8th Memorial Romano Scotti's 13,58 km in 43 minutes and 43 seconds, +2:17 on winner Marianne Vos and not far from the podium in the Women’s series. Teocchi was fourth among Under 23 riders.
"I had been chasing a Top 10 placement in Cyclocross World Cup Women Open race for two years and I'm really happy I have finally got it. The course was hard, muddy and we had to tackle the technical stretches on foot. Anyway, in those moments I felt really strong and I managed to gain some positions. My comeback started with two laps to go " Teocchi commented.
With 44 more points earned in Fiuggi, the European and Italian champion moved up to the 21st position in the GC (3 upper than the previous round), with 147 points.
Next Sunday, January 22nd, Chiara will enter the CX World Cup's grand finale in Hoogerheide (Netherlands), while focusing on the main seasonal goal: CX Worlds' Women Under 23 race to be held in Bieles (Luxembourg) on Saturday, January 28th.
