Milan's Bianchi Cafè & Cycles hosted today, Friday, February 23rd, the official presentation of the Bianchi MTB team, ready to dive into its 27th racing season starting in two days in Verona (Italy). Besides the confirmed Marco Aurelio Fontana (former Olympic bronze medallist and multiple Team Relay World champion), Stephane Tempier (back from the best season in his career) and multiple Under 23 Women's European and Italian champion Chiara Teocchi, Team Bianchi Countervail can count from last autumn on talented newcomer Nadir Colledani, who just left behind his final Under 23 season with two World Cup wins under his belt.
“Winning teams are made by winning people,” stated Bianchi CEO Bob Ippolito,” and this team can rely on great material for this year. We are very proud and grateful to these guys for taking Bianchi brand so high in the 2017 season with their results all over the World: a successful stretch that we are confident will continue in 2018, with even greater goals.”
For the third season in a row, Materials Sciences Cooperation (MSC) will "ride" as the second major sponsor of the Bianchi MTB team, with the Countervail® brand: the innovative and patented carbon material with special fiber architecture and viscoelastic resin that eliminates vibrations. “Collaborating with Bianchi is a thrill, because with them technology always comes first, and you see the results in the amazing products they deliver year after year. We are proud of partnering with the Bianchi MTB Team, and we look forward to more great results in 2018.”
Team Bianchi Countervail Elite-Under 23 roster for the new season consists of four bikers, three élites and one U23, looking forward to further satisfactions in the XC and CX international calendar’s top events (World and European championships, World Cup). The newcomer is Nadir Colledani, born in 1995, multiple CX Under 23 Italian champion, winner of XCO World Cup's Albstadt and Val di Sole rounds and gold medallist at the European Championships in the U23 Men series. Colledani already debuted with Bianchi MTB Team in cyclocross 2017-2018 season.
Also Stephane Tempier left a strong mark on the 2017: winner of Gaerne MTB Trophy and Gimondibike, the Frenchman was runner-up in XCO World Cup's Mont-Sainte-Anne and Val di Sole rounds and the final classification, third at XCO French Championships and fifth at XCO Europeans. The rider from Gap is more motivated than ever for his ninth season with Bianchi MTB Team's jersey. A bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics (5th place finisher in Beijing 2008), 3 World Championship titles on the Team Relay, gold medallist at the 2013 Team Relay European championships in Bern and multiple Italian cross-country and cyclo-cross champion, 33-year-old Fontana won three rounds at Internazionali d'Italia Series as well as the GC, then finishing at CX Italian Championships last month.
Chiara Teocchi gave an encore both at CX European and Italian Championships, in Tabor and Rome respectively, re-affirming herself with as many Under 23 Women's titles. Teocchi's roll of honor also includes a gold and a silver medal at the Youth Olympics at Nanjing 2014.
Team Bianchi Countervail’s President Felice Gimondi unveiled new season’s goals. “We restart from Stephane Tempier, coming off a breakout season in which he revealed his potential at full strength. We went twice close to a World Cup triumph with Stephane, who was also second in the final classification, and now he can keep on pushing and achieve that goal he only grazed in 2017. He now knows he can compete with anyone in the MTB World. We signed a talented Italian rider in Nadir Colledani - who chose Bianchi for his Elite debut season after his brilliant farewell campaign among Under 23 Men - further reinforcing a roster built to pick important achievements also in 2018. Fontana enthusiastically plunged into Bianchi project, dominating the Internationali d’Italia Series and placing sixth at XCO European Championships and tenth in Nove Mesto na Morave’s XCO World Cup round. Nevertheless, we know he has got more to give, and he is very focused on delivering it this year. Grown up in our Junior Team, Chiara Teocchi repeated herself at CX European and Italian Championships and now she looks forward to the CX campaign with a tank of confidence” Gimondi said. “Our goals? World Championships, European Championship, World Cup. Because our team should put no limit to itself.”
Bianchi Countervail’s Junior team is made up of two bikers, managed by Andrea Ferrero: Fiammetta Allocca (2004) and Russian Vadim Bodnarenko (2004) both Rookies and both confirmed.
Bianchi supplies the team with two high end carbon models with racing geometry: the revolutionary Methanol CV and Methanol 29.1 FS (full suspension).
First ever mountain bike frame enhanced with Bianchi’s exclusive Countervail® vibration-cancelling technology developed for NASA by Material Science Corporation, the new Methanol CV sets new performance benchmarks as the fastest, most composed cross-country MTB ever created. Countervail®’s unique carbon fiber architecture and its properties deliver total “After-Shock Control” by eliminating vibrations that pass through the suspension after impact and from trail buzz, delivering a new level of ride quality, with increased accuracy and reduced muscular fatigue.
