Bianchi back to yellow jersey as Teunissen claims Tour de France opener

The Team Jumbo-Visma Dutchman rode Oltre XR4 to an outstanding win in the stage 1 with start and finish in Brussels

Bianchi experienced a dream start at 106th Tour de France, claiming the opening stage and the first yellow jersey. Team Jumbo-Visma’s Mike Teunissen took the Grand Depart’s spotlights, riding Oltre XR4 to win the 194-km stage with start and finish Brussels and being crowned as first leader of the 2019 Grande Boucle, on Saturday, July 6th.

In the hectic finale, on a demanding finish (last 500 meters with a 4% gradient), Teunissen played his cards at best by remounting and outsprinting Slovak Peter Sagan and Australian Caleb Ewan. The 26-year-old rider from Ysselsteyn leads the GC with a 4-second advantage on Sagan and 6 seconds on Ewan. Teunissen’s teammate Amund Grøndahl Jansen (15th) e Wout Van Aert (17th) also stand in the Top 20.

Teunissen will difend his lead in Tour de France stage 2, a 27,6 TTT with start and finish in Brussels. The Dutchman will count on the revolutionary Aquila CV, the most succesful time-trial machine in the WorldTour, and the TT skills of his teammates, first and foremost the two 2019 National champions, Belgium’s Wout Van Aert and Germany’s Tony Martin, this latter four time gold medallist at TT Worlds.
