Bianchi on Tour de France podium: Kruijswijk 3rd overall


Team Jumbo-Visma’s Dutchman put the icing on the cake of an exciting edition for his team, with four stage wins and two days in yellow jersey

Bianchi went back on Tour de France overall podium with Team Jumbo-Visma’s Steven Kruijswijk. The GC third position claimed by the Dutchman on Sunday, July 28th was the icing of a cake for the WorldTour team equipped with Oltre XR4 and Aquila CV, after a 106th edition fulfilled with prestigious results. The 32-year-old rider from Neunen carried his adventure at Grande Boucle with a 82:58:31 final time, 1:31 behind the winner Egan Bernal and only 20 seconds behind Geraint Thomas. In the Champs Elisées’ final sprint, Kruijswijk’s teammate Dylan Groenewegen placed second behind Caleb Ewan.

Kruijswijk built his excellent display in the TT stage, before strengthening it mountain stages as a solid contender for the overall success, with the strong support of teammates George Bennett and Laurens De Plus, the latter fourth overall in the Youth Classification.

Bianchi and Team Jumbo-Visma finished the Tour de France with a flattering outcome: four stage wins (Mike Teunissen in Bruxelles’ opener, the whole squad in the Belgium’s TTT, Dylan Groenewegen in Chalon-sur-Saône and Wout Van Aert in Albi), two days in yellow jersey for Teunissen himself, three runner-up spots (Van Aert in Colmar, Groenewegen in Toulouse and Paris) and two third positions (Kruijswijk on the Tourmalet, Groenewegen in Nîmes).

Team Jumbo-Visma was the most competitive team of the Tour considering all the fields:

  • TT and sprint victories
  • In the spotlights on the climbs and in the GC
  • Two days in yellow jersey
