Marco Aurelio Fontana is the king of 2017 Internazionali d'Italia Series. Team Bianchi Countervail's Prorider held his overall leadership by riding Methanol CV to win the final round in Courmayeur (Italy) on Saturday, June 3rd. Fontana preceded Mirko Tabacchi (+44), whilst his teammate Stephane Tempier (+58) rounded out the podium. The 32-year-old Italian went up to 183 points in the final classification; Tempier was runner-up with a 31-point gap (152).
In Courmayeur, Chiara Teocchi finished seventh in the Women Open's race won by Eva Lechner, managing to hold her second spot in the GC with 116 points and to top the Women's Under 23 classification.
FONTANA: "I'M REALLY HAPPY BOTH FOR ME AND MY SQUAD"
Marco Aurelio Fontana enjoys his outstanding one-two: "I don't remember if I ever won in Aosta Valley region so far, but it's important I did it today: I'm really happy. The overall success at Internazionali d'Italia Series is a great joy, I really wanted to get it for my team. I won three rounds missing further chances, but that's ok. Now I'm going to enjoy some rest", Fontana said.
TEMPIER: "I AIMED FOR THE SUCCESS, BUT BIANCHI'S WIN IS ALL THAT MATTERS"
Twice sixth in as many XCO World Cup events, Stephane Tempier unwittingly put his brakes on in Courmayeur: "I was a little bit tired after World Cup's rounds, even if I felt good. It would have been nice to wear the GC win jersey, but Marco was stronger than me and Team Bianchi Countervail's success is all that matters. This month I'm going to train in home's nearbies in view of Andorra's World Cup round and I hope to solve the problem of my slow starts", Tempier commented.
TEOCCHI WOMEN'S U23 QUEEN: "I THANK MY TEAM FOR THE PRECIOUS SUPPORT"
Altough she aimed for completing the comeback over Calvetti in the Open Women ranking, Chiara Teocchi welcomed with a smile the Women's Under 23 Series win and the overall runner-up spot: "I'm not living my best period, but I can be happy I hold the U23 leader's jersey and the GC second position. I thank thewhole team for the support, even more precious when things don't go as hoped. Now I'll pull the plug and recharge my batteries to come back stronger than before in the World Cup", the 20-year-old Italian commented.
Bianchi supplies the team with two high end carbon models with racing geometry: the revolutionary Methanol CV and Methanol 29.1 FS (full suspension). The Junior Team is equipped with Methanol 29 SX model.
