Boom and Bianchi top Tour of Britain overall

Team LottoNL-Jumbo and Bianchi celebrated in Cardiff as Lars Boom won the Tour of Britain’s general classification on Sunday, September 10th. The 31-year-old Dutchman finished 14th in the front group on the eighth and final stage (Worcester-Cardiff, 180,2 km), managing to defend his leader’s jersey and to seal another success for Oltre XR4, Bianchi’s ultimate aero road racing machine.


Only Edvald Boasson Hagen – who started with a 20-second gap from the GC leader – tried to make things harder, moving on the attack in the finale and claiming the stage win. But Boom, helped by his teammates, succeeded in controlling the race and maintaining a 8-second advantage over the Norwegian in the overall. Stefan Küng – third at 10 seconds – rounded out the final podium, while Victor Campenaerts (4th) and Jos Van Emden (6th) completed the Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s party, finishing in the top-10.


The Dutch squad ended the Tour of Britain with a remarkable score of two stage victories (Boom on stage 5 time trial and Groenewegen on stage 7) and three podium spots (Groeneweg on stage 2 and 6, Campenaerts on stage 5). Boom's triumph in Cardiff represents also the 24th seasonal win for Team LottoNL-Jumbo and Bianchi.
