Team LottoNL-Jumbo's Primoz Roglic celebrated today, Sunday April 29th, the 72th Giro di Romandia’s overall win: by finishing in the bunch the fifth and final stage, 181,8 km from Mont-sur-Rolle to Genève, the Slovenian definitively secured his GC lead. Roglic completed the prestigious Swiss stage-race in 17:09:00 , with a 8-second advantage on Egan Bernal and 35 seconds on Richie Porte.
This success extends Roglic’s and Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s superb winning stretch in World Tour stage races, after the Slovenian had claimed the overall at the Itzulia Basque Country, in Spain, earlier in April. This also marks the fourth success of an already outstanding season for Roglic, all of them at the World Tour level, and the 11th win for the Bianchi-powered LottoNL-Jumbo team in 2018.
Roglic had clearly showed his ambitions since Fribourg's prologue, riding Aquila CV to third only one second behind Michael Matthews, before wearing the leader's jersey after the stage 2 in Delémont on Wednesday, April 25th. Roglic confidently defended his lead one day later in Yverdon-les-Bains and was a brilliant runner-up with Oltre XR4 in the uphill TT from Ollon to Villars, fending off Bernal's attack. Roglic placed also second twenty-four hours later in Sion, outsprinting Bernal himself, Rui Costa and Porte.
