Primoz Roglic (Team Jumbo-Visma) celebrated today, Saturday March 2nd, the 1st UAE Tour’s overall win: by finishing in the bunch the seventh and final stage, 145 km from Dubai Safari Park to City Walk, the Slovenian definitively secured his GC lead. Equipped with Oltre XR4, Roglic completed the World Tour stage-race in 26:27:29, with a 31-second advantage on Alejandro Valverde and 44 seconds on David Gaudu.
Overall winner of Volta a Catalunya, Tour of Romandie and Tour of Slovenia titles in 2018, as well as one stage at the Tour de France, Roglic couldn't start better the new racing year. The 29-year-old rider from Trbovlje achieved the leader's red jersey in the UAE Tour's opener, a 16-km TTT with start and finish in Al Hudayriat Island, dominated by his Team Jumbo-Visma on February 24th.
Roglic was the stage 3 runner-up then, 179 km from UAE University to Jebel Hafeet, in the wake of Alejandro Valverde, and third in stage 4, 197 km from Palm Jumeirah to Hatta Dam.
The Slovenian proved again the UAE Tour’s best rider outsprinting Tom Dumoulin and David Gaudu in the stage 6 finish on Jebel Jais top, before today's final catwalk in Dubai's City Walk.
