Dylan Groenewegen claimed a podium spot, taking 2nd in Tour of Britain stage 2 - 211,7 km from Kielder Water & Forest Park to Blyth - on Monday, September 4th. The Team LottoNL-Jumbo Dutchman, equipped with Oltre XR4, Bianchi’s ultimate aero road race machine, sprinted to second behind Elia Viviani, after the disqualification of Edvald Boasson Hagen - the first across the finish line - due to irregular sprinting. Third place for Colombian Fernando Gaviria.
The Dutch team had been very active in the finale of the stage. First Lars Boom tried to surprise the bunch attacking with 14 kilometers to go, but the peloton soon brought him back. Then Groenewegen, led to the front by teammates Gijs Van Hoecke and Jos Van Emden, opened up his sprint in the middle of the road taking his seventeenth podium of the season.
Viviani is also the new race leader. Lars Boom, the Team LottoNL-Jumbo's best placed rider, sits eighth in the GC with a gap of 12 seconds.
