Bianchi and Dylan Groenewegen celebrate in China. The Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s Dutchman claimed a sprint victory on Tour of Guangxi stage 5 – 212,2 km from Liuzhou to Guilin – edging out Colombian Fernando Gaviria and Dane Magnus Cort Nielsen, respectively second and third, on Monday October 23rd.
Stage 5 was the longest of the Chinese World Tour race and featured four climbs. Team LottoNL-Jumbo did a great work in support of Groenewegen, delivering him in a perfect position for the final sprint. With a huge acceleration, the 24-year-old Dutchman went nose-to-nose with Gaviria, finally beating him on the finish line thanks to his sprinter skills enhanced by the aerodynamic advantage provided by Oltre XR4, Bianchi’s ultimate aero road race machine.
Groenewegen, already on the podium on stage 1, scored in China his 8th seasonal success, the second in a World Tour race after the prestigious victory at 2017 Tour de France’s final stage. For LottoNL-Jumbo, the Dutch team sponsored by Bianchi, it’s the 26th win of the year.
