Dubai Tour, Groenewegen wins the opening stage and takes lead

Team LottoNL-Jumbo's Dutchman clinched his first 2018 win outsprinting Cort Nielsen and Viviani in Palm Jumeirah

Dylan Groenewegen rode Oltre XR4 to score his first seasonal victory in Dubai Tour’s opening stage, 167 km from Skydive Dubai to Palm Jumeirah (UEA) on Tuesday, February 6th. Fastest wheel in the bunch sprint, the Dutchman edged out Danish Magnus Cort Nielsen and Italian Elia Viviani.
The 24-year-old rider from Amsterdam will wear the leader's blue jersey in the stage-2, 190 km from Skydive Dibai to Ras al Khaimah. On Palm Jumeirah’s podium, Groenewegen was also awarded with the Points leader’s red jersey.
Groenewegen scored Team LottoNL-Jumbo's second victory in 2018 after Danny Van Poppel one at Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana's opening stage in Peñiscola (Spain) on Wednesday, January 31st. Van Poppel himself finished second in the final stage of the Spanish race.
