Team Bianchi Countervail's Stephane Tempier scored the overall win at Garda Lake MTB Race in Manerba del Garda (Italy). The Frenchman held his GC lead after finishing sixth in the final Granfondo stage in 2:02:50, with a 7-second gap from the four-man leading group edged by Sasu Halme on Sunday, April 8th. Twenty-four hourse before Tempier had topped the XCO race with a 1:17 advantage on Fontana and Tiberi. The latter had won the short track stage on Friday, with Colledani, Tempier and Fontana in his wake. "I'm happy with my first seasonal win. Today it was important to ride with the leading group to hold the leader's jersey. Everything was fine, it was a positive week-end for the whole team" Tempier explains. "I could play my cards for the runner-up position, but I was slowed by a puncture and then I spent too much energy to bridge the gap. Anyway I'm happy: we have gained a lot of points, winning a stage and the GC. The team worked hard, a three-day race is demanding but the the good results reward our efforts," Fontana added. "In three good days, I do regret some mistakes I've made in the XCO race. We have managed the final Granfondo well, holding our GC positions, with Tempier's lead in first place. We come back home with a good number points and a solid condition: I'm satisfied" Colledani's words.
Chiara Teocchi finished far from the top positions in the GF: "Today it was so hard, I was really tired because of the previous stages and I only tried to close the race with a reduced gap. I'm not happy with my result, I'll learn a lot from this experience: it will help me tu further improve also in terms of resistance". Team Manager Massimo Ghirotto praised his riders: "The team's result and performance give us confidence in view of next week-ends’ important events. Chiara faced a new experience: these kind of events are important steps in a rider's career, and this will enrich her technical background to keep on improving".
