MTB World Cup, Chiara Teocchi seventh overall

The Mountain Bike World Cup came to a close in La Bresse (France) with an unremarkable weekend for Team Bianchi Countervail. Under 23 Teocchi took seventh overall in her series after 9th place in the final round

With the seventh and final stage in La Bresse (France), over the weekend from Friday August 24thto Sunday August 26th, the 2018 XCO World Cup has come to a close. The French trip was not particularly rewarding for the Team Bianchi Countervail riders, on the heels of a sometimes unlucky season for Massimo Ghirotto’s team. Chiara Teocchi took seventh place overall in the Under 23 Women category, after ninth place in the final stage, whilst Stephane Tempier had to stand with 15th overall, having endured several setbacks over the season after a good start and an outstanding second place in Albstadt.

On Sunday August 26th in La Bresse, after heavy rains in the last few days, the riders had to deal with a heavy and slippery course, even though the morning sun had at least mitigated the temperature. The first rider to go for Team Bianchi Countervail was Chiara Teocchi in the Under 23 race, at 8.30. The Italian couldn’t find the rhythm to square off against the fastest, but still finished ninth, 5.32 behind winner Sina Frei. In the overall standings dominated by Frei, Chiara Teocchi totaled 181 points for seventh position.

In the Elite men’s race, in the early afternoon, Team Bianchi Countervail lined up only Stephane Tempier and Nadir Colledani, after the late scratch of Marco Aurelio Fontana due to sickness. The Frenchman could not do the most of the “home factor”, ending in 28th, 6.28 behind Nino Schurter. Nadir Colledani came in 45th, at 8.53 from the Swiss World Cup winner. Tempier ended as 15th overall (637 points), with Fontana in 22nd (526 points) and Colledani 33rd (359 points).

Team Manager Massimo Ghirotto spoke his mind afterwards: “It’s hard to be satisfied with this weekend’s display. Chiara Teocchi had a decent race, whilst Tempier and Colledani did not live up to the expectations. In terms of results, this World Cup had some highlights, and certainly some bleaker days. I expected more, but we will look to do the best of the experience we made. We accept the verdict, and look ahead: we want to build up for a good World Championship, and then move on to restart with new ambitions.”
