Primoz Roglic finishes on Giro d’Italia’s podium

Primoz Roglic stepped-up Giro d’Italia’s podium, placing third overall thanks to the tenth position in the final ITT with start and finish in Verona, on Sunday June 2nd. Team Jumbo-Visma’s Slovenian clocked 22:33, with a 26-second gap from the winner Chad Haga and 31 seconds on the rival Mikel Landa, climbing over the latter in the overall classification with a 8-second advantage. Richard Carapaz won the Giro d’Italia with a 1:05 advantage on Vincenzo Nibali and 2:30 on Roglic himself.

The 29-year-old rider from Trbovlje brought Bianchi back on Giro d’Italia’s podium, three years after the outstanding  but unlucky Steven Kruijswijk’s campaign in the 2016 edition, that he finished fourth in the GC.

After dominating UAE Tour, Tirreno-Adriatico and Tour de Romandie in the early season, Roglic had started the 102nd Corsa Rosa winning the prologue from Bologna to St. Luca sanctuary and wearing the leader’s pink jersey for the following five stages, until San Giovanni Rotondo’s finish. Three days later, Roglic dominated San Marino’s ITT, going up to second overall.

Besides riding Aquila CV to multiple wins, Roglic brilliantly rode Oltre XR4 on the mountains stage, placing seventh in Ceresole Reale (Lago Serrù) and eighth in Courmayeur.
