Roglic wins Pau ITT and takes Vuelta a España’s lead

Team Jumbo-Visma’s Primoz Roglic moves on top of the 74th Vuelta a España. Thanks to one of his renowned performances against the clock, the Slovenian rode Aquila CV to dominate stage 10 – a 36,2 km ITT from Jurançon to Pau (France) held on Tuesday, September 3rd – overtaking Colombia’s Nairo Quintana on GC top. Roglic cloked 47:05 in Pau, preceding Patrick Bevin (+25) and Rémi Cavagna (+27).

Roglic rode Aquila CV to his fourth ITT win in 2019, after the ones in Genève (Tour de Romandie), Bologna and San Marino (Giro d’Italia). The Slovenian once again took once advantage from the optimization of the Bianchi CV system powered by Countervail (carbon material with special fiber architecture and viscoelastic resin), that enhances handling control by cancelling up to 80% of road vibrations. A critical advantage that can prove decisive.

Overall winner of UAE Tour, Tirreno-Adriatico and Tour de Romandie in 2019, the 29-year-rider from Trbovlje leads now Vuelta a España’s GC with a 1:52 advantage on Alejandro Valverde and 2:11 on Miguel Angel Lopez. Roglic had started to build his strong GC display finishing runner-up in Mas de la Costa and third in Calpe and Cortals d’Encamp.

Team Jumbo-Visma’s riders wore the leader’s jersey in all the 2019 Grand Tours. Previously Primoz Roglic himself had led Giro d’Italia for five days in a row before finishing third, then Mike Teunissen has been Tour de France’s leader for two stages, thanks to the individual win in the opener and the team’s success in the following TTT.
