After five days of climbing, Simon Yates has been crowned the new king of the Tour of the Alps. The Team BikeExchange rider dominated the stage race held from April 19th to 23rd between Italy and Austria, finishing with a 0:58 advantage over Pello Bilbao and 1:06 on Aleksandr Vlasov. After the impressive solo win in the second stage, 121,5 km from Innsbruck to Feichten im Kaunertal on Tuesday April 20th, 2021, Yates managed the race with authority in the following days, thanks to the support of his teammates.
The Tour of the Alps’ victory is the perfect approach to the Giro d’Italia, where Simon Yates will be one of the main contenders for the Pink Jersey. At the Tour of the Alps, the power of lightweight of the new Specialissima strengthened the performance of the Brits rider, who also brilliantly mastered stage 4 with the tricky Boniprati ascent and descent, finishing third in the Valle del Chiese/Pieve di Bono arrive. Team BikeExchange controlled the race in the last stage before the celebrations for a superb overall victory.
