Dylan Groenewegen’s last World Tour stage race of the season started with a prestigious podium on his Oltre XR4, Bianchi’s ultimate aero road race machine. Team LottoNL-Jumbo Dutchman ended up second, on Thursday, October 19th, in the opening stage of the Tour of Guangxi, a short and hard fought 107,4-km circuit around the Chinese city of Beihai. The sprint victory went to Colombian Fernando Gaviria, who also wore the leader’s jersey, with German Pascal Ackermann rounding out the podium in third.
The Team LottoNL-Jumbo was in the thick of the action throughout the whole day, pushing hard at the front of the peloton to bring back a four-man breakaway. In the final bunch sprint, Groenewegen claimed the 6th World Tour podium of his season, including the superb victory on the famous Champs-Élysées for the 2017 Tour de France’s last stage.
