Last year's picture was about a smiling Chiara Teocchi with a gold medal in Pontchâteau (France). The reigning Women's Under 23 European champion will try to do it again on Sunday, November 5th: Team Bianchi Countervail's athlete, equipped with Zolder disc, aims to defend her champion's jersey at UEC Cyclo-Cross European Championships in Tabor (Czech Republic). The rider from Bergamo, turning 21 next month, is ready to make use of all her skills and gumption to achieve the "first big seasonal goal", to put it in Chiara’s terms.
The road to the CX European Championships was carefully tracked by Teocchi. The Italian rider competed first in the Memorial Jonathan Tabotta in Monte di Buja (Northern Italy) placing third, then soloed to win the CX Giro d'Italia's round 2 in Ferentino, with an high-standard performance. "I expected to do better in my debut race, but I knew I couldn't be so brilliant after the hard training of the previous weeks. My shape has steady grown and I could ride at my best in Ferentino, claiming a victory that gave me great expectations for Tabor's race" Teocchi explained.
The self-confidence matches with the difficulty of the challenge: "It won't be easy to gave an encore at the Europeans, because I'll meet strong rivals, but I aim to defend my Women's Under 23 champion's jersey and they also know I won't settle for a runner-up spot" Chiara warns. The Women's Under 23 race will start at 10.15 am.
