Groenewegen starts season with a bang in Spain

The Team Jumbo-Visma sprinter won the opening stage of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana in a tight dash, celebrating on his season debut

Dylan Gronewegen of Team Jumbo-Visma enjoyed a perfect start of his 2020 season, claiming a close sprint victory in the opening stage of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, seeing off Fabio Jakobsen in the sprint to the line in Vila-Real, on Wednesday February 5th. Groenewegen came on top of his very first day of the season, wearing the leader’s jersey in the process, and giving Team Jumbo-Visma its first success of the new year.

Team Jumbo-Visma rider started his sprint from afar but managed to time his dash to the line perfectly with his Bianchi Oltre XR4 to take his third career victory in the Spanish race. Gronewegen claimed 15 wins in 2019, making him the most successful rider of the past season.

Wout Van Aert continued his comeback from injury suffered during the last Tour de France, scoring an impressive fourth at the 2020 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championship, held on February 2nd in Dübendorf, Switzerland. The lengthy recovery period curtailed his cyclo-cross season but on the tough circuit the Belgian fell just shy of a medal spot, finishing fourth in the race won by Mathieu Van der Poel. Van Aert rode his new Bianchi Zolder Pro in Dübendorf.

The 2020 season brings some good news: Team Jumbo-Visma have created the development team, consisting of thirteen under 20 riders. As the “’parent” World Tour team, the youngsters ride with Bianchi bicycles, combining different disciplines: road, cyclocross, track or mountain biking. Bianchi supplies Team Jumbo-Visma Academy with the new Oltre XR4, with disc brake system only.

Bianchi supplies the Team Jumbo-Visma with four models engineered with the Bianchi CV system powered by Countervail:

  • Oltre XR4, designed to maximize the aerodynamic advantage and control. Oltre XR4 is the Bianchi’s ultimate aero road racing machine, engineered with the Bianchi CV system powered by Countervail. The graphics were renewed for the new season. Team Jumbo-Visma also uses Oltre XR4 Disc version.
  • Aquila CV, the ultimate time trial machine, designed to increase power output and rider’s energy, with maximum control with each pedal stroke.
  • Infinito CV, the ideal bike for the Classics, providing remarkable control on uneven surfaces and reducing muscular fatigue. It is engineered with the revolutionary Bianchi CV system, using patented Countervail carbon material, to cancel road vibrations.
  • Zolder Pro Disc, latest evolution of the carbon platform designed by Bianchi for cyclocross, combining lightweight frame and resistance to obtain the best performance.
